The Canadian Agri-Food Research Council (CARC) provides a listing of proper handling, housing, management, transportation and processing practices for farm animals on their website. Farmers are not bound to follow these Codes of Practice, but they contain recommendations to assist farmers and others in the agriculture and food sector to compare and improve their own management practices. The Codes are intended to promote the highest level of husbandry and handling and attempt to formalize industry practice standards.
