About Us

Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - Protecting animals since 1873, the Ontario SPCA is a registered charity comprised of over 50 Communities relying primarily on donations to fund animal protection, care and rehabilitation; advocacy, and humane education. The Ontario SPCA Act mandates the Society to enforce animal cruelty laws and provides Society investigators with police powers to do so - making the Ontario SPCA unique among animal welfare organizations in the province. The Ontario SPCA is a member of the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies, the World Society for the Protection of Animals, and is affiliated with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

In Government

Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services - The MCSCS is committed to ensuring that Ontario's communities are supported and protected by law enforcement and public safety systems that are safe, secure, effective, efficient and accountable. The Ontario SPCA reports to the MCSCS. The current minister for MCSCS is Rick Bartolucci. www.mcscs.jus.gov.on.ca

Ministry of Natural Resources - The MNR manages and protects Ontario's natural resources. They promote healthy and sustainable ecosystems, conserve biodiversity, conduct scientific research, develop effective resource management policies and promote resource and economic opportunities. To achieve its goals the MNR works collaboratively with a wide variety of partners, including environmental organizations; private resource sector industry, fish and game associations; researchers; and other government agencies of all levels. Canadian Federation of Humane Societies - CFHS was established in 1957. CFHS is the national voice for animal welfare issues for industry, media, government, non-governmental organizations and the public. CFHS supports its member animal welfare organizations across Canada in promoting respect and humane treatment toward all animals.

World Society for the Protection of Animals - Marking 25 years, WSPA is the world's largest network for animal welfare with 600 member societies in 140 countries. WSPA's mission is to unite an informed, global animal welfare movement that helps and protects animals and creates a climate for change, leading to enforced legislation that transforms animals lives. WSPA works with animal welfare organizations from around the world to persuade governments to agree to international principles on the welfare of animals. www.wspa.ca

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - Established in 1824, the RSPCA is a charity dedicated to preventing cruelty and alleviating the suffering of animals. RSPCA seeks to achieve their mission through strong branch, regional, national and international organizations dedicated to providing a public service, delivering effective relief of animal suffering and law enforcement. www.rspca.org.uk
