| Ontario SPCA Launches new pet adoption program for cats, Meet Your Match® Feline-ality™ | ||

Newmarket, ON (November 02, 2009) - The Ontario SPCA is excited to announce the launch of Meet Your Match® Feline-ality™, an adoption program that helps orphaned cats find forever homes. Imagine the heart-warming sight of an adult cat going home with a family that perfectly matches her adventurous personality...a confident, loving tabby cat being hand-picked by a retired couple looking for companionship...or an energetic tuxedo cat going home with a newlywed couple who will provide a lifelong home. "The key to developing successful adoptions lies in making good matches between adopters and pets, thus creating lasting bonds," said Christa Chadwick, Director of Animal Care, Ontario SPCA. "Feline-ality™ is a tool that does precisely this; and everyone - adopters, adoption shelter staff, and most of all, the cats - benefits from the program." The program, owned and distributed by the ASPCA, has seen results of up to 40 percent increase in adoptions; up to 46 percent decrease in euthanasia of adult cats at beta-test facilities. Feline-ality™ uses detailed research-based surveys and behaviour assessments, both for cats and potential adopters, to make the best matches possible between the two. The cat assessment reliably predicts, bases on its Feline-ality™, how an individual cat is likely to behave in its new home. An adopter's survey identifies the characteristics of the adopter’s preferences and lifestyle that correlate with specific feline-alities™. Adopters can look for the cats with specific feline-alities™ they feel would be a good fit for their household and identify them by colours and sub-categories. "We are excited to implement the Meet your Match® Feline-ality™ Adoption Program," says Chadwick, "this unique program uses a science-based, colour-code system to bring compatible pets and adopters together, increasing the potential for a successful, permanent placement. We want to see these cats find forever homes rather than see them in our shelters."
